中央社報導，美國國家公路交通安全管理局（NHTSA）今天表示，正對德州發生的壹起致命事故展開調查，壹輛啟用自動駕駛功能的特斯拉汽車，19日因不明原因沖撞民宅，導致屋內76歲婦人死亡。
報導引述警方說法指出，這輛特斯拉Model 3高速沖向磚造民宅，撞上人在屋內的艾維拉（M. Avila），駕駛向警方辯稱，事發當下車輛正處於“啟用自駕系統”的狀態。

不過特斯拉喊冤，指駕駛當時正以人為控制車輛，“他行經住宅區時踩下油門踏板，使車輛改由人為操控，而非自動駕駛系統控制。事故發生時車速高達每小時73英裡（約117公裡），且撞擊後仍持續踩油門”。
路透社報導，自2016年以來，NHTSA已針對近50起涉及特斯拉車輛的事故展開特別調查，涉事車輛均疑似在事發時啟用自動輔助駕駛系統（Autopilot）等先進駕駛輔助系統（ADAS），已知相關事故造成20多人喪命。
