中東戰火升溫，最新消息指出，伊朗已在戰略要地荷莫茲海峽（Strait of Hormuz）開始布設海軍水雷，引發國際關注。而根據美國國會去年發布的報告，伊朗估計擁有多達5,000至6,000枚水雷。
據《CNN》報導，2025年6月伊朗、以色列與美國之間為期12天的沖突之後，美國國會發布壹份報告，內容探討該次沖突對石油與天然氣市場的影響，特別是在荷莫茲海峽運輸中斷的背景下。
報告指出，2019年時外界認為德黑蘭擁有超過5,000枚海軍水雷。到2025年的估計顯示，這壹數量略有增加，約達6,000枚，並點出伊朗持有多種類型的水下武器，包括吸附式水雷（limpet mines）、系留式水雷（moored mines）、底部水雷（bottom mines）。

消息人士向《CNN》表示，伊朗已開始在荷莫茲海峽布設水雷，目前布雷規模尚不廣泛，最近幾天僅布設數拾枚。然而，其中壹名消息人士表示，伊朗仍保有其80%至90%的小型船只與布雷能力，技術上可於該水道布設數百枚水雷。
美國總統唐納.川普（Donald Trump）周贰在真實社群（Truth Social）上發文表示：“如果伊朗已在荷莫茲海峽布設了任何水雷，雖然我們目前沒有這樣的報告，我們要求他們移除，立刻移除”，並稱若德黑蘭不這麼做，將會面臨“軍事後果”。
