@neighboursofrichmond A brazen thief took advantage of families and mothers celebrating Mother’s Day at Richmond’s iconic Hai Di Lao 海底撈 hotpot restaurant, smashing car windows and stealing belongings from multiple vehicles - all while the families were dining just steps away inside the restaurant. Described as a “junkie”, the man was seen around 7:00pm in the parkade for Hai Di Lao located at No. 3 Road and Westminster Hwy, using a flashlight to peer into parked cars before brazenly smashing the windows of at least 4 vehicles and grabbing what he wanted. The incident caused significant emotional distress and financial loss to families gathered for what as meant to be a joyful occasion. One woman, whose vehicle was broken into, reported having her purse and credit cards stolen. Jason Xie, who was also dining with his family for Mother’s Day, shared that the back window of his Tesla was shattered and items belonging to his child were taken but later recovered after being dumped by the thief. Alarmingly, a man matching a similar description - wearing a basketball jersey and carrying a flashlight, was seen in the same parking lot just the day before, at around the same time. It remains unclear whether he was scouting the area in preparation for the targeted theft on Mother’s Day.
